Linda started her first horticultural business in 1976 and was introduced to herbs and alternative medications in the late 70’s when a family member was informed that (due to defoliant poisoning... not Agent Orange?), he had little time left on this planet.  Shortly after this prognosis, the family member was introduced to a young MD who believed in holistic and alternative medicines.  He was then put on a regimen of clam shell and a litany of sea weeds and herbs, then watched only comedies.  He is still here after 34+ years and two beautiful children.

In October of 1997 Linda was diagnosed with breast cancer. The next year was spent combating the affects of surgery, chemotherapy and radiation treatments; her husband and children applied techniques of the stomach, heart and soul, as well as two ferrets, Cubby and Sally, for entertainment.  Currently working through her twelfth year, Linda remains Cancer Free and WILL REMAIN SO!

Among so many things from that year came the desire to change a little of what people put in and on their bodies.  The realization that the proverbial ‘someday in the future’ we all speak of was now, and that to make a dream come true she needed to begin.  Dynamic thinking, consorted efforts (and two ferrets) kept Linda with us from that day forward and every day I am soooo grateful.

Realizing the potential of herbs and the sense of “Self” coupled with mind dynamics, Linda has been working with herbs [and loofa] for more than 30 years. Since then, she has never stopped looking around for common herbs and the more unique varieties that help us in our day to day battles with life and its daily stresses.

With that in mind and using the Loofa/luffa seed she had been cultivating for decades, Linda and a longtime friend put their heads together and a farm was born.   By using Linda’s selectively grown seed stock, the two friends started their venture in October of 1999 by becoming one of the very first commercial growers of loofa sponges in the United States; this farm was the first in the State of California certified as Organically Grown. During the following 3 years they developed the farm in Central California, starting with two small greenhouses; it grew to a new larger commercial house.

As the farm was growing, so also were the herbal and bath product ends of the business. In the first year a fine line of herbal products was developed in the Redwood City locations, which included all natural glycerin soaps, along with herbal bath products, and aromatherapy products to help lessen the stress of daily life. Great care and thought went into these items and they were greatly accepted.

As the business grew it became apparent that, with so many miles between the two locations, it would be best for the two ladies to split apart to each fly on their own; the one company has now become two separate entities: The “Mariposa Loofa” farm in Northern California continues to grow our original seed and produce some of the finest loofa sponges available today in the United States.  Her friend continues to grow from Linda’s original seed and, while (she) doesn’t any longer, Linda continues to grow her crops in a fully organic manner, with recycled containers, greeting those who tour in a shaded, misted environment.

The Mariposa Loofa Farm officially began business on November 1st 2002 and Linda is still busy in her workshop providing herbal wonders. We now have a vastly new clientele and are very grateful for the new friends made and are very excited about this new page in our book. We hope you enjoy visiting our web site and cruising around.

Please, feel free to contact us by mail, phone or E-mail! And if you are a cancer victim and just need someone to speak with? Call! We’ll talk. And thanks to all the rest of the clan who continue to make this a success story.
